"After several years ...

... of mounted lessons one thing that had never been addressed was how to safely work with horses from the ground, and how to handle them in difficult or excitable situations. Lucy came to our home and worked with my two daughters, ages 10 and 12, and their horses, to address these concerns. We all learned more about handling horses in that first visit than we had learned in 4 years of hands-on experience which included handling many horses other than our own. Lucy helped us to understand how the horse thinks so we could address the issues with their point of view in mind."

"I was very impressed...

... with Lucy's teaching skills with the little girl today. She was very thorough with the brushing, hoof care, hand position on the reins, etc and also with the bareback riding. The little girl had 100% of Lucy's attention. That can be the difference in buildinga student's confidence and the little girl seemed to be very confident Lucy is patient and gentle. I loved watching her today".

"Lucy is a kind and compassionate horseman...

... whose patience with these complex creatures humbles me. She always follows her intuition and is not easily influenced by outside opinions. Her works consists of slowing down, listening intently and communicating with each horse to meet its specific needs, personality, past history and training. I have been Lucy's equine massage therapist for three years and it is always a pleasure to work with her happy, healthy and well adjusted horses".

Additional Notes From Lucy:

  • I do not accept horses for training or boarding for less than one month.
  • Full payment for one month is required when horse arrives for training or boarding.
  • Owners are encouraged to visit their horses while in training to observe their progress. One weekly lesson with owner is required as part of the training..
  • Feed, supplements and fly spray are supplied by owner unless other arrangements are made in advance of start date.
  • I supply hay and turnout. I feed several times a day in smaller servings to enhance digestion. The quality, quantity and frequency of feeding plays an important role in general health, attitude and performance.
  • Negative Coggins, current rabies/shot record and regular worming schedule are required 24 hours before horse arrives.
  • I highly recommend testing for Lyme Disease as well as having an annual oral exam by a qualified equine dentist or veterinarian before training begins.
